The College Application Resume Template is a standard protocol for writing an application for college entrance. Most universities follow the same format and list of qualifications for entrance into their student body. There have been some changes in what the colleges are looking for because of the shift in value of some job skills. For example, during the 1800’s the in demand skill set centered around more of a manufacturing position for those with the greater demand for employment. This continued into the twentieth century until more of an information age grew into importance. Many new employment and academic opportunities were created with the advent of the information age during the latter part of the twentieth century.
Colleges educated and prepared the new generation of workers for the employment opportunities available. The information age grew and grew. The computer age and then the digital revolution took hold. We now have a digital lifestyle, a digital marketplace, and a new way of educating our students. Universities and employers keep weathering the storm of change. Now a college application has new meaning. No longer an industrial or manufacturing demand for students, the university has evolved into a new breed.
EDUCATION SECTION OF THE COLLEGE APPLICATION RESUME TEMPLATE
The Education section of any application to the new fangled university needs to stress just this. New and digital is important. Any skills that you may have in this direction need to be noted and emphasized. A degree from a high school where you took special classes in electronics or computers should be noted.
Always add the specific class that you attended. For each class indicate the instructor and the curriculum that was followed. Books read or the class reading list would be a good idea. Anything extra that you attended for each subject is important, such as workshops or seminars.
The idea for the College Application Resume Template format that you are putting together is clarity and transparency. Be sure to include how you learned from this class. How was this subject matter helpful for the other classes that you took or planned to encounter? Were there discussion groups that were especially helpful?
WORK EXPERIENCE AND THE COLLEGE APPLICATION
Work experience is very important. Any jobs that you were paid for you should put on your college resume. The kinds of employment are critical, also. If you were a supervisor or showed special leadership skills, then this is something the college wants to know about. If you were a time manager, then you are ahead of the game. Time management and leadership are especially awarded for the college applicant.
Being interested in the value of an education can be put here. Explaining how you are gathering future job experience is a good way to show maturity. Maturity is another personal attribute that is valued throughout the university system.
Be sure to put the dates that you worked, and, also, include the name and place of employment. If a supervisor can write a recommendation for you, then all the better. Universities are in the business of training the future work force. So any indications that you are a good worker and value the work ethic would make sense to include in your college application.
The number of hours per week worked is important to note. Not that you need to be a workaholic, but working a minimal number per week will show that you were committed to the job focus. Dedication is a top priority for any future employer looking at a college graduating class. Always put your best foot forward and show the traits of an excellent hire.
EXTRACURRICULAR AND VOLUNTEER ACTIVITIES
This section of the college application is sometimes confusing. Often a list of sports and interests is provided. More needs to be said about this section of interest for you. Why is this important? This particular part of a college application provides several different avenues of information. The committee who is looking over application resumes will want to know more about you on a personal level. What are your general and specific interests? How will you fit in a college campus community? This is sort of a mini fitness exam for the college applicant. The personal interests and special projects that a person embarks upon will show some of the personality or character fitness of the applicant.
Rest assured that the tried and true ways of the past are not completely out and the transcript is looked over. Your academic credit report or transcript is certainly critical. However not everything is transcript focused. Having a personal history of working for the Peace Corps, to make an obvious example, is a good thing if you are applying to a religious program or social worker program.
However, if yours is something that requires a certain amount of experience in, for example, the legal field, then having a White House Internship as an extracurricular activity is an excellent plus. Matching the volunteer and extra activities to your academic program avenue is a smart strategy. None the less having a history of volunteer experience or small jobs for pay will show initiative.
Working in sports or volunteering with a youth group during the summer months shows that you are employable to a certain degree. The colleges need to pick the best and the brightest in order to generate the quality of graduates that will shine in today’s workforce. Showing that you are one of these chosen is something that you need to do. Overlooking this competitive quality will certainly bring a rejection result that you, of course, do not want. The College Application Resume Template is a way to define what you want with what you currently can bring to the table. Putting your best foot forward and knowing what the market is will both, at least, bring you closer to your goad of admittance into your college of choice. Gone are the days of automatic admittance. Most college applicants today are a part of a large pool of potential students. Student loans are frequently applied for and this factor needs to be researched, also.
